Ricinus communis

This native African plant is commonly known as Castor Bean. It's used in annual beds in Canada and can grow up to 15 ft. If you're familiar with the poisonous substance Ricin, then you might have already noticed the genus of this plant stems from that word. Ricin is poisonous to humans and wild animals. If you do decide to grow this in the spring, you should remove all of the seeds and dispose of them properly. Just one milligram of ricin can kill an adult.
